Cleaning Washing Machine Door Seal

The misconception is that the rubber door seal is cleaned thoroughly during every wash cycle and that therefore an additional manual clean of the door seal is not necessary.

Wipe the seal dry with a clean dry cloth. A bleach solution does however disinfect and so therefore eliminates any damp mildew smell from the seal. You can also use non toxic bathroom cleaner to get rid of mold and mildew or take advantage of hydrogen peroxide as an excellent choice for mold removal too. Dampen a clean cloth with water and wipe around the seal of the door to remove any loose dirt or debris.

You should also clean the outside of the washer door after you remove mold from rubber seal on washing machine. The seal on the door of a front loading washing machine is imperative to keep the water inside and prevent leaks. Even the strongest cleaning solutions may not entirely remove black mold stains without risking damage to the door seal. Grab a towel or rag and dip it in hot soapy water and scrub away.

Use a solution of bleach and baking soda or vinegar baking soda and water. Add 1 cup of baking soda to the drum around the seal. Rinse the seal with a clean damp cloth to finish removing any last bits of grime. Wipe clean with a cloth or towel dipped in a solution of washing up liquid and water.

Firstly mix together a homemade cleaning solution of 1 cup bleach and 1 cup baking soda and pour it into the detergent drawer. Then add an additional cup of baking soda into the washing machine drum around the seal area.
