The varnish is plenty tough so using poly just makes the process a little more difficult because you have sand more to ensure the next layer of finish will bond well.

The only slightly tricky thing is cutting the feet so the sawbench sits flat on the floor.

The dovetail and tenon saws see a quite a bit of daylight as they are bench saws.
Ok set the depth of cut for the table saw at about 2 1 4 and set the fence for a 6 wide cut.
But it s a bit of a shlep.

Glue and screw the braces to the legs using three 8 x 2 wood screws in each leg.
A pair of benches makes the use of panel saws and full size handsaws efficient and comfortable when crosscutting and ripping boards.
I also use them for drilling finishing helping brace.
